Adopt A Flamingo Program

Now you too can adopt one of the 2200 flamingos marked with a plastic ring at the Ria Lagartos Reserve. One of the flock of flamingos flying in the Caribbean and along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico can be yours for a small donation.

The cost of adoption is $300 pesos (about $30 USD). The money will be used to buy telescopes which trained observers will use to read the plastic rings of the birds throughout the Yucatan Peninsula and in Cuba. This allows us to understand their life history so that we can better protect the species.

As the adoptive donor, you will receive a stuffed flamingo, an adoption certificate and an annual report of your flamingo’s life history. This makes a wonderful gift for a child of any age!
