Ninos y Crias in the Yucatan

Our Methods

The civil association RARE has pioneered a technical work innovation which allows people from various communities to work together while preserving their own biodiversity through the process and means of education.

The educational campaigns to promote conservation through pride build a better understanding about natural resources conservation and involve people from the community in their protection.

Created by Paul Butler, RARE vice-president, these campaigns use emblematic species or attractive ones to promote pride from the people in the community to their natural surroundings.

The educational campaigns to promote conservation through pride are based on the social market principles and the goal is to influence, essentially, the people’s attitudes and behaviors, attracting emotional aspects,  and at the same time making nature conservation a fun activity.

These campaigns usually focus their attention to an attractive specie and transforms it on a regional or national pride symbol. The conservation of that specie and its habitat become a priority for the communities. With the purpose to reach every community segment, the campaign messages are widely spread through a series of activities such as: posters, billboards, stickers, Puppet Theater, popular songs, contests and community festivals, among others.

These messages are reinforced through community work promotion towards all sectors of the community.
