Yucatan Gulf Coast
If we want conservation to be sustainable, all our communities must look at the problem and take part in the effort.
Here at Niños y Crías we work with nature while always remembering that humans are a part of nature too. Only harmonic union with one another will guarantee the survival of all living species on our planet, including ourselves.
We work for the most part in places designated by Federal and State Governments as Protected Natural Areas (PNA).
Why PNAs? Because these are the country’s best preserved land and aquatic sites for the conservation and protection of wild animal species. Some of these species no longer exist in other parts of the country. We feel these regions constitute the best starting point.
In the State of Yucatan we work in the cities and small towns inside the Ría Lagartos and Ría Celestun Biosphere Reserves. The Ria Lagartos Reserve encompasses the municipalities of San Felipe and Rio Lagartos and the smaller towns of Las Coloradas, El Cuyo and Dzonot Carretero. The Ría Celestún reserve includes the cities of Celestún and Isla Arena which belong to Campeche State.
Recently we have also expanded our work to include the communities of Dzilam de Bravo, Chabihau, Telchac Puerto and Sisal.
